Durgadas Bannerjee was an Indian actor and singer who predominantly appeared in the Bengali film industry. On December 3, 1893, he was born in Kalikapur, Bengal Presidency, British India. His ancestral home was Garia Rajbari. His father’s name is Taraknath Bandyopadhyay, and his mother’s name is Annoupurna Bandyopadhyay. He completed his early education at South Garia School in Garia, southern Kolkata, West Bengal. After that, he went to Bou Bazar Art School in central Kolkata, West Bengal, to pursue his education in art. Later, he took his degree in art at the Government College of Art and Craft (GCAC) in Kolkata. His wife, Bina Pani Bandyopadhyay, was an educationalist. Durgadas Bannerjee is the grand-uncle of Sudipto Buti Banerjee, a musician of a Bengali rock band named Cactus.

Durgadas Bannerjee started his career as a Title Writer and Word Writer in silent movies for Madan Theatre Company and the Taj Mahal Film Company. He did different roles from 1922 to 1943. Also, he briefly performed in plays produced by Star Theatres in Kolkata under Aporesh Chandra Mukherjee.

He played a significant role as Bikarna in Karanarjun in 1923. In 1924, he starred in Naresh Mitra’s film “Chandranath” and played the titular role, Chandranath. He had worked in almost nineteen silent movies as a lead actor. The movie was a significant hit. In 1943, he played his last role as Jahar in the Bengali drama film “Priya Bandhabi,” directed by Saumen Mukherji under New Theatres Limited. The legendary actor Durgadas Bannerjee died on June 3, 1943, in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency.
