Plot

Syed Abdul Rahim was an Indian football team coach from 1950-1963. During his tenure as a coach cum manager, he made the Indian Football team get the name Brazil of Asia. Rahim’s sensational leadership, dedication, and vision made football get a strong place among the favourite sports in India. During his tenure, the Indian team won 2 Gold Medals in the 1951 and 1962 Asian Games. In 1956, the Indian football team qualified for the Summer Olympics. Rahim’s motivational speech powered the Indian team in the 1962 finals against South Korea.

Star Performance

Ajay Devgan has once again proved that he is not only an action hero, but an amazing performer. After his excellent performance as a family man in the Drishyam series, he nailed the role as a wonderful coach. His body language, his expressions, and dialogue delivery are awesome. His dialogue delivery during the final between the Indian and South Korean match was excellent and made the audience get Goosebumps. Priyamani is an excellent choice for this role. Her chemistry with Ajay is laudable. Gajraj shines along with Ajay in the given role. The rest of the actors have done a good job.

Analysis

Kudos to the casting team, who picked the stars who resemble the legendary players, who were on the winning team. The director Amit should be given a big pat for his astonishing making of the film with a huge star cast. Every scene is sculpted well to make the audience enjoy. The matches are designed extraordinarily well and the visuals are fantastic. Kudos to Fyodor Lyass’ filming techniques. The editing is neat and we don’t feel bored at any moment. AR Rahman’s BGM escalates the final match scenes and gives the audience a fine cinematic experience. The dialogue writer should definitely be appreciated for the motivational dialogue.

What’s There?

Amit’s fine direction is one of the plus points
Ajay Devgan’s excellent performance and screen presence
AR Rahman’s perfectly metered songs and BGM

What’s Not There?

No big flaws are seen

Verdict

Maidaan is one of the big teamwork that gives the audience a great visual experience. Whether or not you’re a sports enthusiast, you should try this film once for the best cinematic experience with clap-worthy performances.
