Rudranil Ghosh was born on 6th January in the year 1973 in Howrah. He is believed to come from a non-film background where his father was said to be a serviceman, and his mother is a housewife. He is called as ‘Rudroo’ by his close friends. He completed his schooling in Bengali medium from West Bengal Board of Education. Later on; he graduated from the Narasinha Dutt College, affiliated with the University of Calcutta in the year 1995. Rudranil Ghosh has to struggle very hard to get an entry in the Bengali Entertainment Industry. He made his debut in the industry along with some other newcomers when Zee Bangla Television channel introduced ‘Messbari.’ Rudranil Ghosh rose to fame with his first commercial hit ‘Kantaar’ which was directed by Bappaditya Bandhopadhyay.

He also got an award for this movie. This movie was the first step to his success. Till now, he has acted in 50 movies and some TV serials. He is well-known for his movies like Howa Badal, Chaplin and The Japanese Wife. Some of his other movies include Love Express, Katmandu, Black, Kelor Kirti, Rajkahini, Khaad, Hanuman.com, Ashare Goppo, Proloy, Basanta Utsav, etc. He is also well-known for his comedian acting. Rudranil is a multi-talented personality. Rudranil Ghosh is not only an actor but also a director and a writer. He had directed ‘Shunyo’ in 2013. He had written the movie ‘Jiyo Kaka’ in 2011. In 2007, he won Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Award for Best Supporting Role Male for Kantaar. In 2011, he won Zee Bangla’s Gourab Award for Best Actor in Negative Role (Cinema) for Byomkesh Bakshi.

In 2012, during 12th Tele Cine Awards 2012, he won the Best Actor Award for Chaplin. Rudranil was given a clean chit in the case by the lower court.
