Rajaratnam Junior is a Malayalam musical reality show, featured on Amrita TV to find out the precious stone from the Carnatic musical ocean. The show was launched in September 2007, and was on air for a period of nine months to find the champion. Amrita TV was first of its kind to try such a novice conceptual show. The concept of the show was based on the oldest form of practiced music in the world, looking for extraordinary musical talents between the age-group of 10 to 15. The contestants were not only chosen for their raw talent, but also from their aptitude skills like commitment, seriousness, and dedication to music and its practice.
During the show, contestants were evaluated through different Carnatic musical rounds which include, Keerthanam, Swathi Thirunal, Thillana, Varnam to Pancharatnam and Kacheri. The grand finale of the show was telecasted on 1st of June, 2008. At last, there were three finalists left, Arjun Krishnan: a 14-year-old kid won the crown and the prize of 3 lakhs. The trophy of the first runner-up and the prize of 2 lakhs were honored to Hari Sankar- another fourteen-year-old kid and Mahadevan, a ten-year-old boy, won the third prize.

The majority of the participants had music in their blood, as their family members were also in the same field or were avid followers of the Carnatic music. The success of the Rajaratnam Junior opened the door for season 2.
The second season of Rajaratnam Junior came just after two years of the first season, and this time with more vivid talents. The season two was launched on 18th December 2010, and telecasted on every weekend at 8:30 pm (INS). This time, the competitors were between the age-group of 10-14, but full of talent and passion for music. The season two consisted of three judges, grand master (T.K. Govind Rao), and two famous practitioners of Carnatic music (Anuradha Krishnamurthy & Dr. Cherthala K.N. Ranganatha). Just like the first season, the second one was also a blast. Rajaratnam Junior has shown immense potential for the classical music and was a delight for the Carnatic music lovers as well.
