A Kanyakumari is an Indian musician who is renowned in South India. Kanyakumari was born on 15th June 1951 in Vizianagaram, India. Later she moved to Chennai along with her family. Her father, Sri Avasarala Ramarathnam and, her mother, Smt. Jayalakshmi were very supportive of her decision to become a violinist. They were the one who encouraged her recognized her talent. They took her to Ivaturi Vijeswara Rao, a great Indian musician, and she got trained under him for several years. Then she also got the opportunity to learn from M. Chandrasekaran and M. L. Vasanthakumari, two legendary violinists. P. V. Subramaniam, one of the experienced and unbiased critics has remarked her voice to be as beautiful as the diamond nose ring of goddess Kanyakumari.
After that, she came into the limelight and got recognition from people all over the globe. Her music has remained unique and fresh for the audience. Her stage shows and performances in the music festivals were the most loved ones. Vadya Lahari, which was made by her, was a combination of three classical Indian music instruments violin, veena and Nadaswaram. She holds a world record for doing the 29 hours non-stop marathon performance. Kanyakumari is the first Violinist who got awarded with several prestigious awards. In the year 2015, she was honored with Padma Shri by the Indian government. She also owes Kalaimamani, Ugadi Puraskar, Honorary citizenship of the state of Maryland, U.S, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and Sangeetha Chudamani Award.
