The serial aired for 121 episodes. Jeeva Hoovagide is the story of two lovers who are forced into a life they are unhappy with. Madhumitha (Madhu) and Madan are lovers who belong to rival families. They keep their relationship a secret until Madan’s brother, Vishal, gets drunk and blurts it out.

Madhu’s father finds out and arranges her marriage with another guy from their village called Srikanta, who, along with his mother, concoct evil plans. After a few weeks of constant fights and disappointments, the two families unite. Nanjunda, father of Madhu, thanks to his daughter for uniting the families. Nanjunda promises to get Madhu and Madan married. After they both get engaged, Srikanta and his mother plan to get Madhu and Madan killed, but they escape. Madan gets worried about an ominous prediction of his life according to his horoscope. Nanjunda orders Madan to stay away from Madhu until they get married, believing that it would lift the curse.

Srikanta kidnaps Madhu, and Vishal saves her. From a few days before their wedding, Madan experiences many bad omens. Once they get married, Nanjunda becomes furious as, according to Madan’s horoscope, it says that his wife will suffer. Vishal proposes to his girlfriend Anjali, and she says yes. She leaves for America for a few months. A few days after the wedding, Srikanta plots to kill Madan and Vishal in an accident. Madan dies, but Vishal survives, and everyone blames him for his brother’s demise. A few days later, Nanjunda and  Siva (Madan and Vishal’s father) discuss getting Vishal and Madhu married. Madhu refuses initially but reluctantly agrees when her father threatens to kill himself. They get married, and ever since, Madhu faces the atrocities of the mother-in-law, who forces her to unite with Vishal physically.

Madhu accuses Vishal of killing Madan deliberately in order to get married to her, which is far from the truth. Anjali returns to India and meets Vishal, unaware of the fact that he got married. After finding out about their marriage, Anjali attempts to commit suicide when Vishal refuses to leave Madhu. After recovering, Anjali seeks revenge for what Vishal and Madhu did to her.
