Diff'rent Strokes is an American TV series that aired on NBC and later on ABC. The series first aired on NBC from November 3, 1978, to May 4, 1985, and from September 27, 1985, to March 7, 1986, aired on ABC. Diff'rent Strokes belongs to the genre of the sitcom in which a Manhattan family adopts the children of their late housekeeper from Harlem. A few episodes brought upon serious issues such as kidnapping, racism, alcoholism, hitchhiking, illegal drug use, and child sexual abuse. Phillip Drummond is the only character in the series to appear in every episode of the series. Diff'rent Strokes, written by Brian Rathjen, revolves around the Manhattan family of Phillip Drummond who is a widowed millionaire and the president of Trans Allied Inc. who makes a promise to his dying housekeeper that he would take care of her boys after she passes away and hence adopts two African Americans from Harlem- Arnold and his elder brother Willis. The series is about the boys adjusting in their new family, with their new sister, Kimberly, Drummond’s daughter.
