Asianet film awards 2014 is the 16th edition of the shimmeringAsianet film award show held on 10 January 2014, at the Meydan Hotel & Grand Stand, Dubai. The show is an award ceremony organized to honor the Mollywood’s sublime artistic and technical performances. The first show held in 1998 and since then it is held annually in various cities across Kerala and sometimes at the international location too. Furthermore, it has gained popularity over the years and currently one of the most watched award function across the state.

Asianet, a Malayalam- language based general entertainment channel from the southern state of Kerala organizes the award ceremony with Ujala being the title sponsor of the function. The most alluring part of the event was Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who was conferred with the International Icon of Indian Cinema award. The award was bestowed upon him from the millions of audience of Asianet channel, chosen through online voting for his exemplary onscreen presence and unique bond that he shares with the numerous fans around the globe. South Indian superstar Kamal Hassan was also honored at the event with the Best Tamil Actor Award for his role in the movie Vishwaroopam while in an exclusive felicitation Mollywood megastar, Mohan Lal was vouchsafed with the Millennium Actor award.

For his outstanding contribution to Malayalam cinema, Innocent Vareed Thekkethala was awarded Life Time Achievement Award. In the male lead Mammootty laureled the Best Actor award for his impeccable roles in movies Kunjananthante Kada and Immanuel while the award for the Best Actress went to Amala Paul for her superb performance in the film Oru Indian Pranayakadha. Lijo Jose Pellissery received the Best Director award for his movie Amen. Drishyam, the film that tops the list of highest-earning Malayalam movie at the box-office till date, won the Best Movie of the year award over the other nominees.

The event also included awards like best playback singer, best supporting actor, best music director, best lyricist, best sound recordist, best editing awards, best script writer, special jury and much more awards distributed among the winners. Among the dazzling performances from leading Mollywood stars and celebrities from various South Indian film industries, the focus of attention at the event was the performance by one the leading Bollywood music composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan, who enchanted the audiences with his hit Chartbuster tracks. MJ5 a famous dance group consisting five members and the winner of the show called India’s Dancing Superstar also bewitched audiences with their dance numbers.
