The season premiere titled “She's Not There” aired on June 26, 2011, with the season finale titled “And When I Die” airing on September 11, 2011. The season begins with Sookie's trip to the land of faeries being a short one, and upon her return to the Bon Temps, she learns that she had been missing for the last thirteen months. During this period Jason had sold her house, and she still hasn't forgiven Bill. During the show, Eric loses his memory not realising that he is in his home. Eric keeps disappearing throughout the season, and Sookie and Alice need to find her ‘again'. Bill, Pam, Eric and Jessica arrive at the witch's coven with the intention of killing Marnie. Her problems with Antonio keep on escalating. He wants to destroy her as the host vampire.

The carnage at the festival of tolerance has come to an end, courtesy of Sookie. She uses her powers to save everyone, but as a result, she unknowingly breaks the spell Marnie had put on Pam and Eric. Terry decides to prove that his cousin is a drug addict. The season ends with Sookie having to choose between Eric and Bill. Nobody said that it was going to be an easy decision but as soon as somebody comes looking for her; she soon realises that her turmoils are far from over. Marnie has taken over Lafayette's body, and she is intent on taking her revenge.

Sookie is the only one who can save Eric and Bill from her and meanwhile Jason decided to tell Hoyt about his sleeping adventures with Jessica. As expected, Hoyt doesn't take it well. Somehow, Jason and Jessica manage to understand their relationship. Andy Bellefleur manages to make amends for his strange behaviour. Without any prior warning, Arlene gets a visit from the last man in the world she wants to see.
