Plot

Four friends ‘make it big’ by robbing a public bank. However, their money is usurped by Kanamma, an acquaintance and an effeminate idli seller. Now the four friends must recover the loot, apart from evading the bumbling cop pursuing them.

Star Performances

Robert Raj and Ramji’s performances are the only two bright spots in this otherwise wasted attempt.

Only these two tried their level best to make the audience genuinely laugh at their ridiculous acts.

Analysis

There is nothing more irritating than a film devoid of its very basics, i.e. the content. ‘MGR Sivaji Rajini Kamal’ has been projected as a comical tribute to the four luminaries of Tamil cinema. However, if that is the case, the Robert Raj directorial better not be shown to either of them, because it’s that bad.

The basic premise of the story is not that bad on paper. Its execution, however, is a different story. Writers Robert Raj and Vanitha Vijayakumar [also playing crucial roles in the film] have made a mockery of the screenplay, making viewers wonder if they signed up for a comedy or a cringe fest.

Forget being funny, the script isn’t even remotely close to being entertaining. The audience is struggling to find any semblance of engagement with the script. Vanitha Vijayakumar has produced, written as well as acted in this film. However, she is struggling to lead on either front, and that’s not a good sign. Even the cameos by Powerstar Srinivasan and Premgi Amaren A native of Chennai, Premgi Amaren is a multi-tale >> Read More... are not enough to save the travesty of a storyline.

On the other hand, director Robert Raj at least gets his acting chops right. He is ably supported by actors like Ramji and Aishwarya, who are perhaps the only crew members seriously interested in the project. If not for them, this film was just a step away from absolute disaster. Others like Nirosha, Jaguar Thangam, etc. are strictly okay in their respective roles, adding nothing unique to the script.

What's There?

  • Only the acting performances of Robert Raj, Ramji, and Aishwarya

What's Not There?

  • Innovative plot ruined by sloppy execution
  • Unimpressive acting by Vanitha Vijayakumar
  • Negligible attempts at making the script funny
  • Bland cameos by Powerstar Srinivasan and Premgi Amaren

Verdict

‘Rasigargal Narpani Mandram’ is a botched effort at making a screwball comedy. The vision of Robert Raj and Vanitha Vijayakumar falls flat concerning the execution. Only a few acting performances somehow salvage this film.
