Plot:

Members of an art club in the fictional village of Koodanthonda unite to save the love story of their clubmate. However, a comedy of errors ensues when one of them also falls for the lover’s sister. Enkilum Chandrike is a comic tale of this confusion and how the Koodanthonda club members come out of this mess.

Star Performances:

While this movie did not hit all the right notes, the performances saved the day.

After a string of serious, gritty roles, it is nice to see Suraj Venjaramoodu in a comic role. Even though he did not have much to do, Suraj did give his best.

Basil Joseph and Ashwin Vijayan have done their best despite the screenplay having very little to offer.

Analysis:

Imagine a movie with a title referring to a woman and yet the movie revolves around everybody but the woman. This is what ‘Enkilum Chandrike’ is, with the actual story being about the marriage aspirations of some bachelors who are members of a village club.

This is the debut project of Adithyan Chandrashekhar, who is well known for his stint with the OTT. However, he did not impress much with his silver screen debut. Even if the movie aimed to be a light-hearted entertainer, ‘Enkilum Chandrike’ was far from it.

The movie had almost every element required for a light-hearted comedy and yet very few of those elements clicked. Unlike the web projects, Adithyan Chandrashekhar opted for a simple approach, reminding some of the old Priyadarshan classics. After all, haven’t we seen the model of a fictional village, friendly villagers, and a group of friends fighting for a common cause before?

So, what is the problem then? The problem is the storyline, which is thinner than a feather. Even the best of their performances in this movie could not make up for the lack of a crisp narrative. Also, the emotions are anything but natural, which is certainly not acceptable. One cannot force the viewers to develop emotions with a bland script, can one?

What’s There?

• Earnest performances from Basil Joseph, Ashwin Vijayan

• Some good cinematography

What’s Not There?

• A bland storyline

• Lack of sound character development

• Forced humor that would impress none

• Female characters relegated to the sidelines

Verdict:

‘Enkilum Chandrike’ is one of those films that had a chance to strike big but fell prey to cliched tropes. This is not a debut that one would expect, especially from a man like Adithyan Chandrashekhar. However, if all you care for is some light-hearted comedy, you can try this.
