Plot
Tarini Bandyopadhyay retired from Amrit Publishers in Kolkata, which was one of his 70+ jobs. He is a good storyteller and could mesmerize anyone with his narration skills. Anuradha, his wife, had been telling him to write stories for magazines and publish them. Not only Anuradha, but his friend and his wife had been insisting him publishing his stories, as they were too good to attract readers. However, Tarini was not interested in publishing his stories. One day, he got to see an ad that required a storyteller for Ratan Garodia in Ahmedabad. Ratan is a wealthy entrepreneur who runs a cotton business. Though he has everything in life, he is unable to sleep. That’s why Ratan advertised that he needed a storyteller who could make him sleep. After Tarini’s arrival, he gave him a place to stay. He comes to know that Tarini is not interested in publishing his stories. So, Ratan decided to make use of it and started writing stories narrated by Tarini under the pen name Gorke. Tarini learns that the stories he narrates to Ratan have been published. Yet, he continued narrating. One day, Tarini informs Ratan that he wants to meet his family in the US, and quits the job. After he bids bye, Ratan wants to publish them in a book. At the event, he faces a copyright issue stating that all those stories are by Rabindranath Tagore. He realizes that Tarini cheated him. What happens next? The rest of the film speaks about that.
Star Performance
Paresh fits well in the role of Tarini and emotes brilliantly. Adil Hussain’s expressions are amazing. The moment he feels that he was cheated, the emotions on his face prove that he is a versatile actor.
Analysis
The narration is made in such a way that we feel as if the story happens in front of our eyes and we are witnessing it live. That’s the power of the screenplay, cinematography, and the expressive performances of the stars. The BGM serves as the biggest elevator of the screenplay. The songs of Tagore were used in the background, which helps the plot’s elevation. The art direction is perfect, and it shows two cultures from two different states in an eye-pleasing manner. The climax was quite good and did not leave anyone sad. Anant has made a sincere effort to recreate Satyajit Ray’s short story.

Anant Mahadevan tried to do justice to Satyajit Ray’s work, and he has done his best. If you don’t expect much and watch the film, you’ll enjoy the performances and the narration.
