Prantik Narayan Basu, also known as Prantik Basu was born in 1986 in Kolkata, India. He is a Bengali film director, associate director, scriptwriter, editor, producer, cinematographer, and story and content developer. He has written all his stories. He makes experimental short films and experimental documentaries and has been making them since 2007. He offers services in video production, advertisement, copywriting, grant writing, research, video editing, videography, ghostwriting, and more. Prantik Basu is an alumnus of Calcutta University, where he graduated in English Literature, and the Film and Television Institute of India, where he learned directing. He was also a trainee at Stuttgart Media University, Berlinale Talents, Film Independent, and Torino Film Lab. He is best known for his short films Bela (2021) and Sakhisona (2019).

Prantik Basu has won the Indian Jury Prize for Best Short Film at MIFF (2012), Toto Award for Best Short Film at TFA (2015), Tiger Award for Best Short Film at IFFR (2017), Best Short Fiction Award at FICSUR (2017), Best Short Fiction Film at MIFF (2018), Golden Durian Prize for Best Short Fiction at Saff (2019), Move Cine Arte Prize for Best Story and Architecture Investigation at MCAF (2020), Grand Jury Prize for Best Film and Best Cinematography at CFF (2020), Satyajit Ray Award for Best Documentary at SASFF (2020), Cinema Experimental Prize at FFSI (2022) and TFL Production Award at the Torino Film Lab (2022).
His works were nominated for CinemaXXI Award AT RFF (2013), Golden Bear for Best Short Film AT BIFF (2019), and Golden Mikaldi for Best Short Film at BIFDSF (2019). Prantik Basu writes both fiction and stories inspired by actual events. The tales often take folk narratives, circling topics like gender inequalities, the relation between man and nature, intricate ground-level politics, and many more subgenres. His films showcase the fragility of human nature and have exceptional cinematographic views. Through his cinema lens, Prantik Basu upholds folklore characters and elements for a wider international audience to marvel at and understand. In an interview, he stated, “I make films from a desire to share something beautiful, things that can’t just be photographed or put into words” and truly stands by it.
