Analysis
Gandhi Godse: Ek Yuddh is a reimagined historical fiction movie that imagines an alternate universe where Hindu icon Mahatma Gandhi is not subject to assassination at the hands of Nathuram Godse. Instead, this film explores events that could have occurred if Godse and Gandhi engaged in a passionate conversation ruled by their beliefs and ideologies. It’s a film that plays out like a sincere, belief-fueled political debate that is both thought-provoking and entertaining. The melodious flute-powered harmonies that make up the musical score add a serene atmosphere to the poignant, profound storytelling.
Although the plot faces difficulties somewhat in establishing which side it is on, it adopts a reasonably neutral approach to the presentation of the ideologies of both parties. It does a fairly accurate representation of blind believers and strong supporters in the political atmosphere that was prevalent in that era. Some might say the film feels biased in various takes, but there’s no denying it’s a fresh and richly played-out story based on one of the most infamous events in our country’s history.

Verdict
The movie is a highly entertaining historical fiction film that explores a fresh and unique storyline that undertakes the infamous assassination of the Hindu zealot who’s forever embedded in our nation’s history. While it’s an extremely engaging and intellectual film that feels more like a thoughtful political debate, it has its flaws in presenting some of its characters, most notably, Godse’s character, who feels one dimensional in his motive and incentive behind assassinating Gandhi. The latter is glorified and his actions and ideologies justified while those opposing him are portrayed to be unfair and illogical in their opinions. If you’re a neutral viewer who is not easily susceptible to swaying political ideologies and general views, this movie is a great watch to stimulate the senses.
