Plot
Siddharth Dixit aka Siddhu, a slum dweller from Mumbai, is devastated when he learns of his brother’s demise. However, when he finds out that his brother’s death was far from natural, he enters ‘ Maidaan Click to look into! >> Read More... ’, an underground survival sports competition held by Dev, to find out the truth about his brother’s death. Will Siddhu make it?
Star Performances
Irrespective of the overall product, this film does do something different. Vidyut Jammwal deserves applause for attempting something different in terms of an action drama.
Apart from Vidyut, it is the technical team, right from the action choreography supervised by Kerry Gregg, to the cinematography by Mark Hamilton, that deserves equal applause for making this film at least watchable, if not outstanding.
In terms of acting it is Arjun Rampal, who is the saving grace of this film. Only he attempted to do full justice to his portrayal of Dev.
Analysis
On 23 February, the cinema lovers hit the jackpot, courtesy tickets not costing more than a hundred bucks and a host of films at their service. Hindi cinema was no different, with at least three significant films clashing for a chance at glory, from the gritty ‘Article 370’, to a semi-biographical ‘All India Rank’, directed by lyricist Varun Grover Varun Grover is a comedian, screenwriter, and even >> Read More... . So, does ‘Crakk’ make a mark?
Written and directed by ‘Table No. 21’ fame Aditya Datt, ‘Crakk: Jeetega toh Jiyegaa’ is a survival sports drama, that aims to bring the world of extreme sports to your screen. With Vidyut Jammwal at the helm of affairs, you are guaranteed one thing for sure: some crisp action scenes! Interestingly, this is the second collaboration between Vidyut and Aditya Datt, the previous one being the third installment of the ‘ Commando Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ franchise.
The film starts with some crisp action and maintains the momentum for most of its runtime. ‘Crakk’ is not one of those films where action is only for name, despite the huge marketing. The action scenes, supervised by Kerry Gregg, appear exhilarating, as well as adrenaline-pumping. For those who love ‘Ong Bak’/ ‘ John Wick Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ style films, this is your film!
However, is this film outstanding? We hope most of us are aware of that quote, ‘Too Many Cooks Spoil the Broth’. This applies to ‘Crakk’ as well. Despite having more than one screenwriter, none of them managed to give a compelling screenplay. In a bid to keep the pace of the movie fast, the makers ironically convoluted the screenplay beyond redemption. For instance, the sequences between Vidyut and Amy were not only awkward but almost irritating at one point.
The screen time was more than 2 hours and 30 minutes long, and some of the scenes felt not only repetitive but simply bizarre from the perspective of narrative. While Vidyut did his best in terms of action, the same couldn’t be said for his acting. This is rather concerning since Vidyut proved his acting chops in his previous venture ‘IB 71’. Only Arjun Rampal tried to do justice to his role and attempted to make the film somehow watchable. The rest didn’t have much to offer, either in terms of their screen space or their acting.

Verdict
‘Crakk: Jeetega toh Jiyegaa’ is an action drama that has a unique touch. The approach, as well as the action choreography, is something very few individuals in Indian cinema have attempted before. If only the screenplay was equally good.
