Plot

The plot of All India Rank centres on a young boy from a middle-class family who is sent to Kota forcefully during the start of the IIT rat race. The movie begins with the introduction of the protagonist and his family, consisting of his father and his mother. They were desperate to send their only child to Kota for IIT preparations.

The 17-year-old protagonist, Vivek, does not want to live in Kota far from his family. The writers make sure that viewers sympathize with the parents as well as Vivek. However, he has no idea what he wants out of his life. He is under constant pressure to pass the IIT exam and fulfil his parents' dream. In Kota, Vivek joins a group that includes two "repeaters" with whom he develops a bond of friendship. The movie emphasizes on Vivek's everyday life away from his home rather than the classroom, which is used as a source of stress in the movie.

Star Performance

The cast members gave decent performances. You will be momentarily enraged by Saddat Khan's portrayal of Mohit. It is a pleasure to see Sheeba Chadha in the role of Kalpana, as she conveys her genuineness with a healthy dose of comedy. Analysis

All India Rank expertly captures the spirit of the late 1990's sending us on a nostalgic trip through time. The film revolves around a 17-year-old Vivek, and his journey to a prep school for the IIT entrance exam. The director skillfully strikes a balance between the emotional upheaval youth and academic pressure. The movie is relatable to anyone who has faced the challenge of the competitive exam. The genuine historical elements and Grover's direction give this coming-of-age story even more charm.

The movie incorporates mathematical and scientific concepts in the story to mirror the character's feelings. Even though the backdrop of an IIT and its lofty goals is well known, the movie succeeds in giving it a deep emotional resonance. The movie explores the intricate bond between fathers and sons while finding a middle ground that appeal to viewers.

Verdict

All India Rank is proof that Varun Grover is capable of anything. A man who previously captivated us solely with his poetry is now writing and making his directorial debut. Considering that Varun Grover is an IIT alumni, All India Rank is an extremely personal movie. It is more of a nuanced story of everyday people overcoming obstacles, so do not expect much from it.
