Plot
Set in the 1980s in the small town of Luton, Javed's family struggles to make ends meet in the crushing recession, battling economic conflict, rising nationalism, and racist attacks. Javed's mother works out of their home as a seamstress, and his father works at a nearby factory. Parental expectation weighs heavily on Javed dreams of being a writer, which he hides from his parents as parental expectations weighs heavily on him. He's not allowed to have a social life, a girlfriend, or independence. One day, a Sikh classmate named Roop hands Javed a couple of Springsteen cassettes. As Javed listens to different tracks by Springsteen, his life keeps exploding in the moment of revelation. The lyrics float, and the music gets actualized in the air in Javed's world. Javed never knew music could speak to him like this. He becomes an evangelist for Bruce, dresses like him, commands the school radio station, and plasters his wall with posters. His parents think he has lost his mind. What do you think of him? Did he lose his mind? Is he aware of what he is feeling?
Star Performance:
Javed is a relatable character. He gets obsessed with Springsteen's music, but what he feels is more than just excitement. What Javed feels hits at a deeper level. There's a surfeit of feeling on Javed's face, so perfectly evocative of what it feels like, particularly as a teenager, to suddenly get into something - music, a movie, a celebrity. And that something hits you in just the right way at the right time. You never see the world in quite the same way again.
Analysis:Â
It is a feel-good movie that tackles a few crucial topics, from politics, race, family traditions, social frustrations, and romance, yet never feels overly cheesy. The film tells the coming-of-age story of Javed, a British-Pakistani Muslim teenager whose life gets changed after he comes through the music of Springsteen. His discovery leads him into unexpected terrains, such as a tentative romance with a classmate, conflict with his father, and tension with his best mate Matt. Bruce made songs related to the working class and the struggles people faced at work and in life. With all its profound lyrics as a backdrop, the film touches on important issues of xenophobia ( still present today) and the struggles that can come with familial expectations not lining up with one's goals.

Verdict:
The film got great acting, with an impressive debut by Javed and other actors. The music and use of songs in this music are fantastic. You wouldn’t help but sing along. Also, if you like Springsteen and his influence as an artist, this will resonate very well with you.
