Kristen Wiig does Imogene in the movie. Annette Benning has done Kristen’s mother in the movie. Imogene has lost both her job and her boyfriend. To add to the difficulty, she is now under her mother’s custody. She wants to get back to her ‘friends’ in Manhattan. She has to set right her relationship with some people including her mother, brother, and her mother’s new boyfriend.Â
These people unite in an attempt to create a unique identity for Imogene in the world. Kristen Wiig is a talented actress who has not been used fully in the movie. It appears like the movie directors have not given life to the story. Imogene’s mother Zelda is mad after men. Also, she goes on gambling sprees. Of late, she is seen around with a new boyfriend George.Â
Imogene’s brother Ralph is an exceptional child who builds a costume resembling exoskeleton. There is another guy named Lee, a musician whose talents have not been recognized. He shares Imogene’s bedroom with her. Lee has confidence in Imogene’s talents after going through her rejected work. There is a twist in the story when Imogene finds out that she has a father.Â
The story is about how Imogene emerges as a successful playwright and how she sorts out relationships. The plot resembles an autobiography to some extent, and it appears like a hastily done patchwork. It could have been more entertaining if the directors had taken more care in the movie.
