), initially hired as a pilot for the Trans World Airlines (TWA), and also by the MedellÃn Cartel to smuggle drugs (mainly cocaine) into the United States from Colombia, for which he earned approximately $500,000 each trip. After he was eventually caught for drug smuggling, and sentenced to prison, Barry approaches the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) offering to be their drug runner/ informant to work against the transpiring communist threat in Central America, to reduce his sentence. He gets appointed the position of an informant in an operation run by the DEA, which eventually led to the Iran Scandal and disgrace of the White House, run by Ronald Reagan at that time.
