Only recently when
Black Mass
hit the theaters, and still lingers in your mind, here comes Sicario with a similar plot. However, Sicario is indeed a great endeavor by the French-Canadian director
Denis Villeneuve
, in its unique way.Â
Plot: Sicario denotes hitman and there are quite a few hitmen in this film. In this drug thriller, Denis Villeneuve handles corruption in the limits of the law enforcement groups of America. This is something similar to the plot of Black Mass. Also, Sicario has lots of similarities to
Zero Dark Thirty
, wherein a female lead struggles to survive in a dark area.Â
Emily Blunt
is at her best in this movie, playing the FBI field agent role with great ease. Benicio del Toro returns with a bang through this film and he delivers a restrained performance. He has surpassed his performances in similar drug movies such as Savages and Traffic. Certain scenes such as the travel to Mexico, where peril is at threat are woven beautifully by Villeneuve. Private airplanes, secret tunnels and civic roads are used in this movie. Roger Deakin’s cinematography is exemplary. The Mexican landscape, as well as the indoors, is shown at its best by Roger. This film will surely fetch him an award. From its traversal from one negative situation to another Sicario gets connected to you. The background score of Johann Johannsson is indeed outstanding and you surely would get a feeling of tension.Â
Sicario is basically a story of revenge. It trudges deeply into the emotional repercussions of violence. The cruelty of the revenge is justified to a commendable degree in this movie. But this film may not vibe with the weak-hearted audience. There is surely the scarcity of warm moments in the film.Â
Verdict: Del Tero and Blunt are the show-stoppers of this film and you can watch it for their performances.
