Major Ravi Reveals That Mohanlal Wasn’t The First Choice For His Keerthi Chakra

Former commando turned filmmaker Major Ravi recently dropped a bombshell : Mohanlal wasn’t the first choice for the lead role of Major Mahadevan in Keerthi Chakra.

Major AK Raveendran aka Major Ravi had shot to fame with his army franchise movies like Keerthi Chakra, Kurukshetra, Kandahar, Picket 43, 1971 : Beyond Borders. In a recent interview, he revealed that Biju Menon was actually his first choice for Major Mahadevan. However, fate played an interesting role, and Mohanlal ultimately took up the role.

For his roles as Major Mahadevan, Mohanlal was given the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army division of the Indian Army, despite having crossed the age limit. Interestingly, this was the same reason for which Nana Patekar had to initially face trouble when he decided to volunteer for the Kargil War, despite the fact that he had actually taken commando training for his directorial debut Prahaar, which released in 1991.
