L2 Empuraan To Release Early On This OTT Platform

After barely managing to survive the carnage, L2 : Empuraan has found an OTT platform.

According to the latest reports, the movie will release on the OTT platform Jio Hotstar by April 24, less than a month after its theatrical release. The movie followed the same trajectory as Mohanlal’s magnum opus Marakkar : The Lion of the Arabian Sea. It opened big, but failed to sustain the momentum, and eventually wrapped up at 106 crores, way less than its budget of 180 crores. Had it not been for the overseas collections, Mohanlal would’ve suffered the misfortune of delivering yet another flop after Barroz.

Though L2 : Empuraan wrapped up as the highest grossing Malayalam movie in the history of Indian cinema, with a total collection of 260 crores and beyond, it wasn’t something to be proud about. Only hours after the release, Empuraan was criticized left, right, and center, not only for its shoddy screenplay, but also its one sided take on the political issues across India, following which the makers were forced to make 17 cuts less than two days into the release of the movie.
