The much-awaited Bengaluru International Film Festival will start on 29 February. Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr. Siddaramaiah will be there to inaugurate the film festival.
As per various reports, in the current edition of the film festival, almost 180 films will be screened. A significant focus will be on Kannada cinema, which will complete 90 years by 2024. As such, 30 Kannada films shall be shown to mark this special occasion, apart from celebrating the occasion of 50th anniversary of the renaming of Karnataka.
As per the Department of Information and Public Relations and Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, a distinct space has also been made for the lesser-known languages of Karnataka, viz. Tulu, Kodava, Banjara, Arebashe, Markodi, Galo, etc.
In his brief to the media, Secretary to the Department of Information and Public Relations KV Thrilok Chandra claimed that ‘Bonjour Switzerland’ will be the festival’s opening film. This film is directed by Peter Luisi. The festival will host contemporary world cinema from more than 50 nations and will also pay tribute to luminaries like Mrinal Sen Mrinal Sen was a renowned and highly skilled India >> Read More... , Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, etc. Also, Kannada luminaries like Leelavathi, directors Bhagwan and CV Shivashankar, and singer Vani Jayaram shall be honored with special film screenings.
