Leelavathi, the veteran Kannada actress, passed away today in a hospital at Nelamangala at 86. She had been battling with age-related illness for long. Leelavathi was one of the versatile Kannada actresses who had worked in all the South Indian film industries and with almost all the South Indian leading heroes of her time. Besides playing in Kannada films, she worked in Tamil, Tulu, Malayalam, and Telugu films. She performed in more than 600 films; among them, Kannada is at the top with 400. Her cinema career spun around 5+ decades, since 1958.
Leelavathi worked with Dr Rajkumar in various movies in various roles, including his daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and aunt. Their combination was received well by the Kannada audience. Leelavathi was a producer, too. She was last seen on the screen in Yaaradhu in 2009 with her son. She was also the producer of Yaaradhu.
