, can be considered to be one of the best war films in India. Though it’s considered to be an old movie, I believe it would still appeal to modern viewers today; and not because of its cinematic effects or heartfelt scenes. Instead, what makes it one of the best and perhaps the greatest is on account of its portrayal of heartfelt patriotism, courage, determination and loyalty.
But what truly separates the movie from other war films is that it is not just a movie of two opposing forces battling each other. It showcases the behind the scene stories that we generally don’t get to experience during the war. That there is more to war than a fight, that it is not just about freedom, winning and glory is the central message of the movie.

. The movie revolves around the story of 50 Indian soldiers held as war prisoners under the authority of Pakistani Soldiers. It is about them plotting an escape and the events that unfold during this heroic escape will keep you tied to your seat.
Bravery, self-sacrifice, and even foolhardiness come into play as the small group tries to escape through the countryside facing high altitude of snow-covered passes. The screenplay has been presented extremely well and the aesthetics in the movie are breathtakingly beautiful.
The cinematography has also been done well. Fine editing allowed the film to be complete at every moment in the film and also stick to the main plot. The cast has done a great job in performing their role, In particular, the main protagonist who was played by Manoj Bajpai, certainly made a huge appeal to his viewers.
Overall the story is about the Indian struggle of soldiers being held as prisoners of war in Pakistan. It’s a movie that shows different events that happen in war. It comes close to a sense of realness, quality and the ability to captivate emotions that we don’t encounter in other movies.
There are plenty of good Indian movies that are left unnoticed, and 1971 is one of them. It’s a great movie that deserves every bit of appreciation and appraisal. It is one of the best classic Hindi films out there.
