20 Daily Soaps That Need To Go Off Air

20 Daily Soaps That Need To Go Off Air Hindi Article

Indian television is one of those things that you can love, you can hate, but you can never ignore. Some of the story lines of the daily soaps are so gripping that you cannot help but go back to them again and again. Star plus, with shows like Mahabharata and Ramayana, is taking mythological shows to another level altogether. The grandeur is bewitching to say the least. And shows like ‘Bhabhi ji Ghar par Hai’, ‘May I come in Madam’ are a very non vulgar portrayal of adult comedy. They are relatable and have content and freshness that is very new to the Indian audience. Reality shows like Dance+ have a great amalgamation of originality and reality while drama climbs new heights due to the variety in shows like ‘Ishqbaaz’. However, there are some soaps that are just plain repetitive, most of them following the same plotline.

Here is a list of top 20 shows that have lost their crispness and originality and need to be replaced, so that drama lovers like us can watch TV without having to continuously change channels. The following also includes snippets of their storyline on their repetitiveness.

1. Sasural Simar Ka

Need I say anything about why this show is on the list? The entire concept of supernatural drama that every channel is trying to include in their shows was brought by this show. There is absolutely nothing that this show has not attempted to do to hold the audience. As if the lead actors did not have enough human enemies ( Khushi, Veeru, Jhanvi, Shaurya, Meghna, Jwala Devi, Vikrant, Mausiji, Rajveer, Rajeshwari), they had a ghost, icchadhari naagin, two Daayans, another ghost, a devil, and then a curse fell on Simar (the female lead) and se became a fly.Yes! A FLY! And as soon as she changed herself back into a human, another daayan enters. I was wondering if somehow the makers of the show would finally put in something sensible, when the show took a leap and Simar was seen working as a maid in some household!

2. Thapki Pyar Ki

I was under the impression that the show was about the empowerment of a woman who had been pushed to the side-lines and insulted all her life due to her stammer. It was a good concept, until she ended up marrying the adopted brother of the man she wanted to marry. Although confusing, it was still acceptable. After all, there are many places where this show enjoys immense popularity. And it is not an entirely unheard of concept. Marriages on Indian television never happen as they are meant to happen. But then Thapki brings home a Gorilla who falls in love with her. I will not even start with the part where Thapki falls in the love with the man who cheated her into marrying him.

3. Swaragini Swaragini - Jodein Rishton Ke Sur is an Indian dai >> Read More...

This is a tale of two sisters. Who does not love to see close bond between two characters? In fact I strongly believe that a huge part of the reason behind the success of Ishqbaaz is the strong bond between the three male leads. However, the show started with the sisters’(Swara and Ragini) rivalry for a man. Are blood ties really so weak that a boy’s lovecan ruin them? And then why can a person not marry a person they are meant to marry? Swara cannot marry aman she wants to because Ragini does not let him and she herself marries him instead. And when Swara does get married, she marries Sanskaar, Ragini’s brother-in-law. When Swara and Sanskaar are happily in love, Swara gets kidnapped and loses her memory. Because God has nothing to do other than test Swara’s courage.

4. Saath Nibhaana Saathiya

The show was launched six years ago. It has seen leaps of twenty years (if we combine all the leaps that have taken place on the show till date). Meera and Vidya are the second generation of the show. They are sisters. But somehow, ends up becoming Meera’s daughter-in-law. After her husband’s death, Gopi, the sisters’ mother, Gopi does not smile or talk for 4 years, but recovers on the day of her remarriage and is still forced to remarry. The sisters also hate each other. I just cannot shake off the feeling that the amount of distrust among siblings today can be blamed on daily soaps like these, where any random thing can drive one sibling to another’s murder.

5. Suhani Si Ek Ladki Suhani Si Ek Ladki is a story about two best frien >> Read More...

When you live with someone long enough, you begin to feel for them. If not love, sympathy, or any other emotion, then you at least do not want them to be killed. Not here. Dadi, Suhani’s (female lead) grandmother-in-law , hates her because she is not beautiful. The couple must part because she does not like her. Suhani’s best friend also falls in love with her best friend’s husband and because she is pretty, Dadi accepts here, regardless of the fact that she is already married. It is understandable that a daily soap must have conflicts, but must they always involve murder, unforgettable and unforgivable insults and ultimately an extremely easily granted apology.

6. Kumkum Bhagya Kumkum Bhagya was broadcasted on Zee TV channel. I >> Read More...

A year ago, I could have gone on for ages on how much I love this show. It was a niceshow despite all the conspiracy involved. But ten Abhi’s (the male lead) girlfriend became pregnant , and for an entire year his wife kept trying to tell him that the child is not his, but Abhi (who was once extremely clever) is so stupid that his wife’s proofs never reach him. And when they do, he refuses to accept them even though his wife almost dies on numerous attempts on proving his girlfriend wrong. When he finally does accept the truth, it’s not after examining proofs, it’s just after his wife vocalises everything. This went on for an entire; the baby got miscarried after a year. Yes, a year.

7. Baazigar

It is a very recent show and seemed interesting, until their main track was revealed. Remember Drashti Dhami Drashti Dhami is a Bollywood model and television >> Read More... and Vivian D’Sena’s ‘Madhubala, when RK(Vivian D’Sena) convinced Madhubala (Drashti) that he loved her but later left her on the mandap of their marriage? This was the part of the plot that later evolved. However, in Baazigar, this is the entire concept of the show. Why must you take revenge on someone by ruining your life in the process of ruining someone else's life?

8. Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani Season 1 Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani belongs to the drama genre >> Read More...

I’ll admit, I was a very regular audience of the show and never missed a single episode, until Drashti Dhami was a part of it. The show was sort of good even after that, even though I could not understand the reason behind the sudden plot twist. But the new lead character is more of a villain, with so much hatred filled inside him, it is almost disheartening.

9. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is a Hindi drama serial >> Read More...

There is something about this show that makes me feel that it is fast on its way to become the next ‘ Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi - This Indian show >> Read More... ’. Maybe it is the fact that the show has been running for more than seven years. Naitik and Akshara (the lead pair) have proved their love for each other way too many times by marrying way too many times. Akshara’s daughter used to talk to her so disrespectfully at one time; it hurts to even watch it.

10. Mere Angne Mein Mere Angne Mein is an Indian comedy-drama TV serie >> Read More...

I understand that every time a woman enters a new family as its daughter-in-law, she must learn and adapt to the new family’s lifestyle, but are these challenges really so excruciating? Do they always have to face someone who is continuously trying to break their relationship with their husband? The grandmother of the family, a matriarch, feels threatened by her new granddaughter-in-law’s different point of view regarding life. So, instead of talking it out, she tries to throw her out of the house.

11. Comedy Nights Bachao

The concept of roast comedy came to India recently with the controversial AIB roast. It was condemned and declared vulgar. Comedy Nights Bachao follows a similar vein, although a little tamed down. But it is hardly funny, and at some points, is just plain insult of the guests. Also, watch the episode where Lisa Haydon Lisa Haydon is an Indo Australian model, who born >> Read More... came as a guest. This is another relatively new show following an old track. At the time they are getting married, one of the two hate each other, but then they fall in love, and just when all is well in paradise, one of them gets into an accident or becomes a victim of some conspiracy. Balaji telefilms is in dire need of new concepts.

14. Ek Duje Ke Vaaste

Best friends love each other, are separated but reconcile later. The boy is rich, the girl is not. So, the boy’s father offer the girl a blank cheque, which the girl refuses, but she must anyway stay away from the guy, because her sister is getting married and the boy’s father blackmails her by saying he’ll break the alliance. How many times must they part until they finally get together?

This show is still popular, (for instance they spend a few episodes themed after mangoes every summer) but now even the child actors have grown up. Moreover there is just too much stereotyping. A bhangda tune plays every time a Sikh man talks, an ‘aiyo’ plays in the background every time a South Indian talks, and so on.

17. Gangaa Gangaa is an Indian soap opera drama created by Sp >> Read More...

The show started off well, with powerful concepts like child marriage and widow remarriage, self-respect and the urge to be self-dependent. The lead woman faces several challenges, mostly due to the man she is in love with. After a whole lot of unfair accusations, she is still ready to forgive him. Although right now she has grown a spine and walked away from him, it is not hard to tell that they will very soon be together again.

18. Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum

Karan Kundra Karan Kundra is a dashing, handsome, sexy, stylish >> Read More... , who won so many hearts as with his previous shows like ‘Kitni Mohobbat Hai’, plays a were tiger in this show. Imagine a human being turning into a tiger. I rest my case.

The leads were romancing when the boy was 19 and the girl was 9. A few years later, the boy’s maturity level is still that of a 19 year old, while the girl is an epitome of maturity. And this difference in maturity levels causes Kartik (the male lead) to continuously try to hurt her feelings, insult her and somehow also to win her love (which he does). Of course, he is always forgiven.

20. Santoshi Maa Mythology has always endeared the Indian masses. W >> Read More...

Who marries someone just because they are mad at them? Apparently, the male lead in every second daily soap. And the women just accept it, because sindoor is sindoor, even if it was applied on them forcefully. In this soap, the problem does not even start here. The major conflict of this show is that Santoshi (the female lead) is devoted to one Goddess, so the other Goddess is jealous and conspires against Santoshi. Is that why bad things happen in the world now? Because Gods are busy trying to destroy each other’s devotees?
