Sudha is a well-known Telugu cum Tamil mother role artist. She is popular in the Tamil industry for her role in Duet with Prabhu and Ramesh Aravind. Sudha usually performed in character roles when she was young. She has acted as the sister of almost all the top heroes and has acted as their mother after a few years. Sudha was seen in the film Guru Sishyan as the sister of Rajini and Prabhu. Later she acted as Prabhu’s stepmother in the movie Duet, directed by Balachander. One of the familiar faces in the Telugu and Tamil entertainment industry, Sudha Garu, is a film and television actress. Having done more than 500 films, Sudha Garu has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages. Sudha Garu was born as Hema Sudha in a lower-middle-class family in Srirangam, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. She has four elder brothers and one younger brother. Sudha Garu completed her education till Pre-University Course. She had no plans of entering into the film industry as she always aspired to become a teacher. Since her mother is a theatre artist, she took part in a theatre drama competition in Srirangam, where she played the role of Kundi Devi. From there, Sudha Garu got the chance to act in filmmaker K.Balachander movies. In 1981, Sudha Garu, along with her family, shifted to Chennai, and she started her film career in Kollywood.
Sudha Garu scored well in the character roles as mother and sister. Her television career started in the Doordarshan channel, and she has done more than 25 serials, including Chitti Thalli, Nachiyarpuram, and Poove Unakkaga. Impressed by her performance in a television show, Sudha Garu received a call to be a part of the Telugu film TalliTandrulu. Initially, she started without knowing the language, but eventually, Sudha Garu mastered Telugu at the end of the shooting. She debuted in the Telugu industry in 1991 with the films Gang Leader and Talli Tandrulu.
She has shot films with Chiranjeevi, Jagapati Babu, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Suriya, Ajith, Dhanush, etc. Some of her films in Telugu are Pokiri Raja, Sultan, Santhosham, Nuvve Nuvve, Jai Chiranjeeva, King, Oka Laila Kosam, etc. For her contribution to Telugu Cinema, Sudha Garu got felicitated on 31 January 2014. Apart from Telugu and Tamil, Sudha Garu has also worked in Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi films. Aksharam, Yuvathurki, Thattakam, Balettan are some of her works in Malayalam, and Rangoli, Meravanige, Thayi Kotta Seere are some of her works in Kannada. Sudha Garu reprised her role of Lakshmi in Gang Leader in its official Hindi, Remake Aaj Ka Goonda Raaj. She has appeared in the role of Twinkle Khanna’s mother in the movie Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega. Sudha Garu got married in 1991 and has two children.

In 2016, she was seen in Jippaa Jimikki and “24” with Suriya Sivakumar, Nithya Menen, Saranya Ponvannan and Samantha Akkineni. In 2017, she played with Akkineni Nagarjuna and Anushka Shetty in the devotional film Om Namo Venkatesaya. It was directed by “K Raghavendra Rao.” She was also seen in Pagadi Aattam with “Rahman,” “Akhil,” Surendar Shanmugam and Gowri Nandha. She shared the screen space with Tottempudi Gopichand and Raashi Khanna in “Oxygen.” In the same year, she played in “Mama O Chandamama.” In 2018, she played in “Nartanasala” and “Ammammagarillu.” In 2020, she shared the screen space with Pradeep Machiraju and Amritha Aiyer in the film “30 Rojullo Premichadam Ela.” She was also a part of the film Thiruvalar Panchankam. In 2021, Sudha was seen in Annapoornamma Gari Manavadu.
Besides playing in the movies, she had also played in TV Serials. Sudha was seen playing in the story Sila Nijangal Sila Niyayangal in “Jannal” series in 1998. She was also seen in a series Adhiparasakthi on Rajshri Tamil. In 2020, she played in the Telugu series Chitti Talli as Jayamma on Star Maa. In the same year, she played in “Nachiyarpuram” as Santhakumari on Zee Tamil. She was also seen in Poove Unakkaga on Sun TV. In 2021, she played the role of Bhanumathi in the Malayalam serial “Mrs Hitler” on Zee Keralam with Meghna Vincent and Shanavas Shanu.
