She received the prestigious Padma Bhushan during the year 2003. Born on 7th September 1925 in Doddavaram village she was familiar with acting since her childhood since her father worked in several stage shows. Bhanumathi debuted in the film industry during the year 1935 and went to work in over 200 flicks in Tamil and Telugu. She was revered as Ashtavadhani due to her versatility. She also had a stint with editing and studio management. Bhanumathi is well-versed in philosophy and astrology. The 1939 flick Vara Vikrayam is her debut venture in Tollywood. But it was Krishna Prema which gained her recognition. Swargaseema is a landmark film in Bhanumathi’s career. Chakrapani, Vipranarayana, Malliswari, Laila Majnu, Anthastulu and Batasari were some of her noteworthy movies. The year 1949 saw her entering Tamil film industry; she acted in the flick Ratnakumar.
