Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa is an Indian Chess Grandmaster and a chess prodigy. He studies in Chennai, and he became the youngest one to earn the international master at 10 and the second youngest to get the title of Grandmaster at 12. His elder sister R. Vaishali too is a woman grandmaster and an international grandmaster. His father never wanted him to get into chess. He was a polio patient and could not afford the coaching of Praggnanandhaa’s elder sister, who was already in the field of chess. But Pragg was a curious child when it came to sports.
Success came early for him as he was genius enough to grasp the sport quickly, and he won the world youth Championships and earned the title of FIDE master under the age of 8. In 2017 the series of winning chess championships started. Pragg initially won the world junior chess championship and later the Heraklion Fischer Memorial GM norm tournament in Greece and Gredine Open in Italy that too in the very next year. The saga continued in the later years as well when he won the world youth championship in the under-18 age category, becoming the second youngest person to achieve a rating of 2600 points. He won the Polgar Challenge tournament for emerging talent in April 2021, which was organized by the Julius Baer Group and Chess24.com.
He was the champion of The Tata Steel chess tournament in the year 2022. Pragg defeated everyone in the Xtracon Chess Open, which was organized by the country of Denmark, with the points 8/5/10 and being undefeated throughout the tournament. He shocked everyone by defeating famous grandmasters Axel Bachmann and Levon Babajian in just 18 moves. 2022 turned out to be his best years performance-wise when he again created history by defeating world chess champions in 8 different rounds of chess.
