Pooja Venkatraman

Pooja Venkataraman was born and brought up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, into a musically inclined family, with her father, R. Venkataraman, a classical Carnatic musician, and her mother, Lakshmi Venkataraman, a Bharatanatyam dancer. Growing up in a family steeped in Indian classical arts, it was only natural that Pooja developed a passion for singing from a young age. Pooja started her formal training in Carnatic music when she was barely 5 years old under the guidance of Smt. Radha Krishnan. She participated in several competitions, winning kudos for her melodious voice and command over some of the most difficult ragas. By the time she reached her teen years, she had been to numerous platforms and was already a known name across Chennai in the circuit of classical music. Since her debut, she has voiced her vocals in many leading films and shared her voice for top music directors like A.R. Rahman, Yuvan Shankar Raja Yuvan Shankar Raja is the popular music composer, >> Read More... , and D. Imman. Her voice ranged from soulful, classical-based songs to energetic powerful dance numbers. Some of the gems amongst them are "Azhage Azhage" for Saivam (2014), "Unakena Iruppen" for Remo (2016), and "Kaadhalae Kaadhalae" for 96 (2018). Apart from films, Pooja continued her work in classical music. She has performed for the prestigious Carnatic Music Festivals of Chennai December Music Season. She has also collaborated on independent music projects with numerous artists, blending Carnatic sounds with modern contemporary styles. Her hard work earned her several recognitions, including nominations for Best Playback Singer Female at the South Filmfare Awards and the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
