A woman with diverse talents is what defines 'Kalaimamani Kalaichudarmani,' Mrs. Bharathi Thirumagan. Kalaimamani is an award, a badge of honor given to people in Tamil Nadu. Particularly for those who have done exceedingly well in the field of art, literature, and music. She is a very talented and responsible Villu Paattu artist, literary speaker, and a musician. Villu Paattu is an olden form of musical storytelling popular in southern states of India, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Here, music intersperses the narration of the story. She has already completed her Masters of Philosophy in this ancient form of music. Now, she is pursuing a Philosophy of Doctorate in the same. A recognized talent by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, Mrs. Bharathi is not only making a local art form go global but also carrying forward her family's legacy.
In 2015 she received the highest state award in the field of art by Tamil Nadu Government. Kalaimamani was the award that she received. Even titles from Kalaichudarmani to Kalai Panpaatu Turai, Villisai Vaitheki, and many more have been awarded to her by the Government of Tamil Nadu. She is a graded artiste of All India Radio. She is the only Villu Paattu Artiste to be impaneled with ICCR. She has performed Villu Paattu for prestigious organizations such as Sangeet NatakAkademi in Silchar Assam & Kochi, Indra Gandhi National Centre for the Arts New Delhi, Gurgaon Tamil Sangam, Delhi Tamil Sangam, Mumbai Tamil Sangam, etc.
And also in many Cultural Organizations/Sabhas throughout India. According to her, her father was a staunch Gandhian and follower of Subramania Bharathi. Thus, he kept her name Bharathi and her brother's Gandhi.Nationalism and spiritualism were the two eyes of her father during storytelling, which she follows. Besides, she and her family have also performed for promoting various government initiatives such as family planning, AIDS awareness, tree plantation, pollution control, and many more.
