Maalavika Sundar

Maalavika Sundar is an Indian Singer, Actor, YouTuber, and a model. Her journey with music started when she was merely 2 and a half years old. She quotes that, it was the time when she started to sing along MS Subbulakshmi’s Hanuman Chalisa and the other classic cassettes that her family listened to. She regards Srimathi Padmavathi Ananthagopalan, the younger sister of Lalgudi Jayaraman as her Guru. She was so emotionally attached to her Guru that when her dad talked about moving to New Delhi, she refused and said that she wanted to stay in Chennai and continue her passion for learning music.

She says that from her guru, she not only learned the nuances of music but also traditions and customs. Her participation in the reality show, Super Singer, proved to be a turning point in her life. Maalavika has performed in more than five hundred Carnatic Music Concerts. Maalavika was also one of the finalists of Indian Idol 9. Maalavika was previously known as Carnatic singer, but soon, she broke the tag after she sang the hit number, Dang Dang under D Imman’s composition in Manam Kothi Paravai.

Her popularity soared after the release of the song. She believes that her presence over YouTube, helped her connect with her audience even better. Maalavika sang several cine songs, including a few hits like Karuppu Nerathazhagi from Komban, Gum Zaare from Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru. Her first online cover was Ey Sandakara from Irudhi Suttru.
