He mainly works with the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada film industries. He was born in Chennai, India. He has the Indian nationality. He did the instrument with a keyboard. Shankar's son name is Balasubramaniam. Shankar and Ganesh are two brothers. Ganesh had died in an accident.

After that, he has known as Shankar Ganesh. They both had started his careers as assistants to Tamil music composers M.S Vishwanathan and T.K. Ramamurthy in the year 1964. After some time the duo had assisted M.S. Viswanathan alone from the year 1965 to the year 1967. Kannadhasan had started his film Titled Nagarathil Thirudargal. In which he give break to Shankar Ganesh as music director. However, unfortunately, the film had stopped. Therefore, Kannadhasan took brought him to the Chinnappa Devar and requested him to give them a break in movies.

Aattukara Alamelu is the Musician duo Shankar Ganesh composed music for 2-films of Jayalalitha - Maharasi in the year 1967. It has produced by Devar Films and Vandhale Maharasi in the year 1973. Shankar and Ganesh are Indian music directors who work together. They work for the South Indian music industry which includes music direction in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam movies. Both of them are based in Chennai and started their career in the industry as the assistance of two popular Tamil music composers, namely, T.K. Ramamoorthy and M.S. Vihankaswanathan in the year 1964. They first worked as music directors in Kannadhasan commenced work on his film named “Nagarathil Thirudargal”.

The duo was introduced to the industry in this movie which was stopped later. With “Kavinger vazhangiya thevarin”, a dance-drama with Jayalalitha as the main lead, they entered the music industry as musicians. Jayalalitha recommended them Devar Films and they debuted as music directors in “Magaraasi”. The movie again featured Jayalalitha along with Ravichandra as leads in it. It was released in 1967. Tamil film “Aattukara Alamelu”, which was released in 1977 and directed by R. Thyagarajan was said to be a landmark in their career which gave a boost to it. Another important film which set a base for their career to rise upon was “Vandhale Magaraasi”, released in 1973 and directed by K.S. Gopalakrishnan.

This was another movie that had Jayalalitha as its lead actress. However, their best work to date is still considered to be in the movies Idhaya Veenai and Naan Yen Pirenden. In 1986 Ganesh received an anonymous package containing a tape recorder which when played resulted in it to explode in his face causing him to lose his vision in the right eye. Also, Shankar died at an early age and Ganesh continued to take the duo ahead by working alone after the demise of his partner.

His vision was restored in 2014 after a surgery. Shankar Ganesh has been widely acclaimed and appreciated for their work. They also received the prestigious ‘Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Music Director’ in the year 1979.

Illamai, Bandham, Veli, Uthami, Kaalam etc are some of their popular works in Tamil while Samyukhta, Chakravyuha, Pralayankatha etc are some of the famous Kannada songs they’ve worked upon. Shankar Ganesh became a popular name in the South Indian households very soon. People heartily enjoyed their work and continue to do so even now.
