Mayavaram Saraswathi Ammal was born on September 3, 1921, in Raja Mannargudi, and was an Indian flutist. Her father's name was Sri Balasubramanian, and her mother's name was Smt. Brahadambal. Mayavaram Saraswathi Ammal worked for the Malayalam language film industry. She has learned the flute from Sri Muthu and Sri Swaminatha Pillai, and then she got vocal training under Mayavaram Sri Venugopala Iyer. She was selected by AIR at Tiruchi as an artist. She performed on radio for several years, in addition to the several stage concerts she continuously performed in and around Mayavaram and Tiruchi. Two CDs bearing the titles “Deiveega Pamalai” and “Baba Nin Karunai Vendsum” featured her songs.
Among her, several honors are the Sangeetha Seva Narita and a citation from Ramani’s Academy of Flute in Chennai. In addition to her theatrical performances in and around Mayavaram and Tiruchi, Mayavaram Saraswathi Ammal performed for several years on radio. Her several honors are certificates from the Ramani's Academy of Flute in Chennai. In 1942, Mayavaram Saraswathi Ammal moved to Chennai, the center of Carnatic music. There, her musical career flourished with performances at temples and sabhas all around Chennai, including in the town of Vellore. She also went on a concert tour of Sri Lanka, where she performed in many sabhas and temples, primarily in Colombo and Yazpanam. At the age of 91, Saraswathi Ammal passed away on August 17, 2013.
