K Palanivel, Palanivel Kalimuthu is an Indian film editor who works mainly in Tamil film industry. He is a Video editor, Colourist, DIT / Data wrangler, Sound editor, and Dubbing editor / Mixer. He worked in documentaries, short films, commercials, film trailers, teasers, promotional videos, animation films, TV serials, game shows etc. As an editor, he has been in the film industry for more than 30 years. He has edited nearly 60 feature films in south Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and also in Hindi and English.
K Palanivel is a B. Com graduate from Madras University. He was the HOD of the editing department in BRIIC for the 2017-2018 batch. He was jury for the All-India level students Documentary Film Festival at Hindustan College of Arts and Science. He attended as an external examiner for the film editing course at MGR Film and Television Institute, Chennai in the years 1994, 1996, and 2012. He has participated as a chief guest in the Visual Communication Department seminars at Dr. G. R. Damodran College of Science, Coimbatore.
Also, in many colleges, he had given lectures regarding film editing. He had been a Guest faculty in the Loyola Institute of Vocational Education (LIVE) – 2018-2019 batch. Also, he had been a guest faculty in the L. V. Prasad Film and TV Academy Editing department, as well as some workshops conducted for the 2018-2019 batch. K Palanivel started his career as an editor with a Tamil movie “Varnajalam” in 2004, directed by Nagulan Ponnusamy. He had worked with renowned directors like, Bharathiraja, Seeman, P Vasu, Samuthrakani, Manobala, Manojkumar, and some debutant directors.
Also, he extended his horizons in documentaries like Ramaiyavin Kudisai, Endru Thaniyum by Bharathi Krishna Kumar, Dancing Life of Malavika Sarukkai by Prasanna Ramasamy, Thirilogam endroru kai alumai by Ravi Subramaniyam. He has edited the short film Maali by Prasanna GPR. He was awarded the best editor for the Tamil film “Kizhaku Cheemaiyile”, presented by Ajanta Fine Arts in 1993, Chennai. V Shantanam award for regional best editor for the Tamil feature film “Kadal Pookal” presented by Rajkamal Academy for Cinematic Excellence (RACE) in Mumbai.
