M Maruthupandian was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. As a film director, he was trained at Chennai Film Institute which enjoys a very high repute in the field of films. Showing a natural aptitude for movies, Maruthupandian got his first break for directing the successful film "Chennai Ungalai Anbudan Varaverkirathu” in 2015. For its distinct plot and storyline alongside the artistic direction of Maruthupandian, a good reception followed the film. He’s given a new innovative view to the field of Tamil Cinema and offered a modern, urban view of the country which was appreciated. Unlike during the makings of his first film, Maruthupandian was not reluctant to get back to work after the release of the first film. He came out with guns blazing in 2018 with Asuravadham, an action-thriller starring M. Sasikumar. Amidst the general theme of the movie being the issue of corruption and conscience, the film was shot in the rural backdrop of Tamilnadu. Critical acclaim was given to “Asuravadham” The storytelling was spine chilling top-notch performance from the Stars and Maruthupandian making it to the best of directors.
