Mahinda Abeysinghe

Mahinda Abeysinghe is a Cinematographer based in Colombo District, Western Province, Sri Lanka.  He completed his Higher National Diploma in Film and Television Production, Cinema/Cinematography from Digital Film Academy, Sri Lanka. At the same time, he has done a Diploma in Television Program in Directing and Production, Television and Film from Teleview Technology Academy, Sri Lanka. He predominantly works in the Tamil movies of the Kollywood industry. 

Mahinda started his career in 2004 when he worked as an assistant director at Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation for Muwan Pelassa television drama. Then in 2005, he worked as a Second unit director for a Television series called Bawathra, which was directed by Sunil Rathnayake. In February 2006, Mahinda made his debut as a director of cinematography for Wadulaka Kadulu television drama. He also got the opportunity to learn VFX and Animation Productions while working as a Creative Director for Sakee VFX Studio in 2007.

In 2011, Mahinda switched to Sister Production, France and worked as a cinematographer for ‘Demons in Paradise’ which was directed by Jude Ratnam and co-produced by France & Sri Lanka Creative Documentary Co-Production. It was nominated for the Golden Camera and for Golden Eye awards at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017. It was also nominated for Best Documentary Award at the Asia Pacific Film Festival, in 2018. Next year, in 2018, Mahinda worked as the Director of Photography at RSSS Pictures, UK for the movie ‘Otrai Panai Maram’ (Single Palm Tree). For this, he won the Best Cinematography Award at the South Cinematographic Academy Film and Arts Film Festival in 2018. Apart from this, Mahinda has also worked as a cinematographer for a short film called Life Beyond the Embers, released in 2022. He has served as the Director of Photography for Cross of Justice, a short documentary released in 2023. Moreover, Mahinda is skilled in Photography, Film Direction, Social Media Management, Commercials, Film Production, Camera Operation, Editing, and Photography.
