Prem Kathir

Kathiran Premathash, popularly known as Prem Kathir, is a renowned film director, producer, and writer of Sri Lankan Tamil origin, currently holding German citizenship. He was born in Sri Lanka, and had to move to Paris in the mid-1980s as a refugee due to the civil war in his homeland. He spent a significant part of his childhood in Paris, France. After completing his Diploma in Tourism in Paris, Prem Kathir worked for various airlines in France and Germany in airline management. However, his passion for film and direction drew him towards the film industry. He started his journey in the film industry as an assistant film director in a few South Indian films. Along with that, he also displayed his creative talents by directing music videos and commercial advertisements.

Prem Kathir's talent for storytelling made him a successful writer and director of most of his movies. In 2005, he directed his first short film The Mirror with his friends. The film was a stepping stone in his career, leading him to make award-winning short films like The Solace and The Lost Souls, which were well-received in many countries.In 2017, Prem Kathir's new short film, The Broken Circle (Suzhiyam), showcased his growth as a filmmaker. Apart from directing, he also acted in a Tamil movie titled Kolaiyuthir Kalam, where he shared the screen with Lady Superstar Nayanthara. He is married to Katharine Premathash.
