N. Mathrubootham was an Indian psychiatrist, writer, actor, and director who worked in the Tamil film industry. Mathrubootham was born on July 2, 1944, in an Iyer family in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. He is known for his roles in the movies Whistle, Shahjahan, Thullal, Kandukondain Kandukondain, Vaali, and Pennin Manathai Thottu. He mainly played supporting roles as a professor or doctor and comic roles along with Vivek. Mathrubootham completed his early education, in his hometown. He moved to Chennai later in the 1960s, and he completed his M. B. B. S. from the Stanley Medical College, Chennai in 1966. He completed his master’s and pursued a doctorate in psychiatry.
Mathrubootham then joined the Institute of Mental Health, Chennai as a lecturer and also worked as a Psychiatry Professor at Kilpauk Medical College. He published many research papers in the field of alcohol and sex education. Mathrubootham received the Pinnacle Award for his multilingual sex education film "Puthira Punithama". In his late 50s, he had arthritis and suffered from renal diseases. He passed away at 60 in 2004 following a cardiac arrest.
