Suryakanth’s birth name is Pakkiri. He is predominantly works in the Tamil film and television industry. He was born on July 7, 1960. Suryakanth’s place of birth is Poondi in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, India. Throughout his career, he has acted in more than three hundred films. Suryakanth has made his mark as a comedian and villain in many characters. When Suryakanth was in the fifth grade, he developed his interest in acting in films after watching the song footage of a movie starring “Kuladeivam” Rajagopal, which was captured in the Poondi Dam area. He discontinued his Bachelor of Arts degree. Then he was rechristened by “Sandow” Marudur Marudachalamurthy Ayyavoo Chinnappa Thevar to act in films. In the beginning, Suryakanth struggled to get an opportunity in high-profile films.

In 1982, he got a big opportunity to act in “Thooral Ninnu Pochu” by director K. Bhagyaraj. In the film, he played the role of the silent villain Ayyavu. His performance as Ayyavu in the film was critically acclaimed by the critics and audience. After that, K. Bhagyaraj constantly gave him opportunities to perform various roles in his films and establish himself in Tamil cinema. Suryakanth marked his acting debut in the film Vasantha Kaalam in 1981, where he played the role of Bharathi. In 1985, he essayed the role of Mohanraj’s henchman in the Tamil-language revenge vigilante film "Naan Sigappu Manithan,” directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar. In 1986, he appeared in six films such as Kanha Thorakkanum Saami, Rasigan Oru Rasigai, Amman Kovil Kizhakale, Mannukkul Vairam, Enakku Naane Neethipathi, and Engai Thaikulame Varuga.

In 1990, Suryakanth portrayed the role of Muthu in the vigilante film "Paalam,” directed by Karvannan. In the 2000s, he appeared in several films, including "Koodi Vazhnthai Kodi Nanmai" (as an opposition party member), "Boys" (2003, as 'Pimp' Manickam), “Anniyan” (2005, as wireman), “Kasimedu Govindan” (2008, as Fisherman), and many more. In 2018, Suryakanth acted as MLA candidate in the action film "Kaala” and as Padma’s father in the crime drama film "Vada Chennai.” The following year, he portrayed the role of Moorthy in the action drama film "Sangathamizhan,” directed by Vijay Chandar. The same year, he appeared in two more films such as Kaithi and Irandam Ulgaporin Kadaisi Gundu. He acted as a shop owner in the short film, Porwaale.

Suryakanth has appeared in Tamil soap opera “Chinna Thambi," which aired on Vijay TV from October 2, 2017 to June 21, 2019. In the show, he played the recurring role of Chiyaan.
