S Jayachandra Nair was also recognized for his unique contribution as a writer in films like Piravi (1989), a movie inspired by a true event and Swaham (1994), a film about the financial trouble of a family. He received awards from the Kerala Film Academy, the Muhammad Koya Journalism Award, and he was awarded the Kerala Sahitya Akademi for Ente Pradhakshina Vazhikal in 2012, a book that reflects the nature of human emotions.
