M.Thankamani is an immensely talented and well-recognized voice dubbing artist. Her voice is known as the evergreen voice of the radio. M Thankamani has predominantly worked for Akashvani (All India Radio). She is one of well-known India’s national broadcasters, talks to KK Moidu during her first visit to Dubai, and as a film dubbing artiste.
M Thankamani has won an Academy for her excellent voice dubbing skills, which benefited the country. She has made her place in the hearts of the people by giving her voice to many characters on radio dramas like Sooryakanthiye Snehicha Penkutty, Moodhevi, Theyyam, Indulekha, etc. She has a unique talent for making sounds of young girls, aged women, young ladies, which shocks everyone.
M Thankamani was born in Palghat district, Kerala, India, in a Namboothiri family. Her father was a great social reformer Mullamangalath Raman Bhattathirippadu was a playwright, author, and poet. His father is also known for making history when he married a widow in the Namboothiri community.
M Thankamani has completed her matriculation from Victoria Government Girl’s High School in Thrissur. She once mentioned that she always wanted to be a Hindi Teacher, but when she started working for All India Radio, that became her keen interest. She passed the audition and started working in Kozhikode station in the year 1964 and, with passing time Thankamani got selected as a casual announcer in the year 1967.
After gaining too much experience, she got announced as a permanent announcer on Dec. 23, 1973. She played the role of Mariam in Vishachumpanam, which is considered the first production from Thrissur station on Christmas day in 1973. This production later got performed in many other plays. She has given her voice to numerous characters so far.
She has given her voice to many powerful characters and projects like Suhasini in Theerthadanam and Vaanaprastham. Also, she gave a remarkable performance for actress Sharada in Kamal's movie Raapakal and Rohini Hattangidi in the Malayalam version of the famous film Gandhi. M Thankamani has also won the National level Akashvani award in 89, 92, and 94 and also many such awards.
