Malayalam Singer Aparna Rajeev

Aparna Rajeev is an Indian ghazal and playback singer who mainly works in the Malayalam film industry. She was born on February 8, 1986, in Kochi, Kerala. Her father’s name is Mr. Rajeev O.N.V, an Indian music composer and former Indian Railway Officer. Her mother’s name is Mrs. Devika Rajeev, who is a banker. She is the granddaughter of O.N.V Kurup, who was a Malayalam poet lyricist. She completed her primary education at Carmel Convent, Thiruvananthapuram. Then, she completed her secondary education at Holy Angels Convent, Thiruvananthapuram. After that, she did her graduation from Mar Ivanios College. She did her postgraduate degree in management at the Asian School of Business. She married Mr. Siddarth Premkumar, a journalist, and has two children.

Aparna Rajeev was six years old when she actively participated in school youth festivals and many other cultural competitions. She was also the finalist in the first music reality program, “Voice of the week” by Asianet. After that, she was selected to anchor the television programs: “Ma Ga Ri Sa,” a children’s music quiz, telecasted on the Asianet television channel, and “Gandharva Sangeetham,” a musical reality show, telecasted on the Kairali television channel. At the age of seven, she began learning Carnatic music from Smt. Omanakutty teacher and subsequently under Shri. Alappuzha Sreekumar. Also, she was trained in Hindustani vocal under Shri Fayas Khan, Pandit Ramesh Narayan, and under the guidance of Smt Abhadrutha Banerjee in 2018. She was trained in Carnatic classical vocalization under famous Carnatic singers Shri Varkala Jayaram and Smt Binni Krishnakumar.

Aparna Rajeev marked her debut as a playback vocalist & singer in the film “Made in USA” under the direction of Shri Vidyasagar in 2005. She sang in a Hindi short film titled “Purani Ye Dhun” under Shri Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, a legendary musician and Grammy award winner. In 2009, she sang the ‘Manjutharasree’ song, composed by veteran composer Shri V. Dakshinamoorthy Swamy for the Malayalam film “ Mizhikal Sakshi Click to look into! >> Read More... .” She won the Kerala Film Critics Award for best playback singer in 2009, Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback singer- Malayalam, and the World Malayalee Council-Kairali film award for Female playback singer.

She also received the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy award for being the best female singer in the professional drama category in 2016. She is famous for her songs, ‘Punnelin Kathirola’ from the film Nothing but Life, and ‘Udaya Sooryane’ from Paattinte Palazhy. Also, she has performed many ghazal concerts all around the country, including the prestigious Soorya Festival in 2016.
