Dr. T. M. Thomas Isaac, an economis and an Indian politician, was born on 26 September 1952. He served as a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He also worked as the Minister for Finance and Coir of the Indian state of Kerala. His father’s name was T. P. Mathew, and his mother was Saramma Mathew. Thomas completed his Ph.D. at the Centre for Development Studies. He was a professor at the Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram. When Thomas was just a student, he got involved in student politics. He also made connections with the Students Federation of India (SFI), an organization, which is politically linked with the Communist Party of India. Isaac and his wife, Dr. Nata Duvvury, got divorced. The couple has two daughters, Sara Duvisac and Dora Duvisac.
In his tenure as a member of the Kerala State Planning Board, Thomas was the head of the Peoples Planning in Kerala. He served as the representative of the Alappuzha constituency in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. From 2006 to 2011 and 2016 to 2021, he was the Finance Minister of Kerala. Thomas has also published several articles and books in English and Malayalam such as The Withering Coconut (1985), Political Economy of Poverty (1985), Economics Crisis in the Capitalist World (1987), ABC of Political Economy (1987), The World Bank and IMF (1988), etc.
