E Chandrasekharan is an Indian politician who is one of the senior-most leaders of the Communist Party of India. He was born on 2nd December 1928 in Kottarakkara, Kerala. He joined Students Council while graduating from Annamalai University. Later he joined Communist Party in 1952. He was a law graduate and practiced law till 1970. In1980, he was appointed as the Adhoc Committee Chairman for the formation of Subject Communities.
After becoming the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, he strengthened the public distribution system in Kerala. He was also the recipient of awards like the ‘Sadanandan Award’ for best co-operator and the ‘R. Sankar Narayan Thampi Award’ for best Parliamentarian. As a soft-spoken and active leader, he captured the hearts of all the people. He and got admitted to the Sri Chithra hospital in Trivandrum for chest congestion. He later died on 29th November 2017.
