Her mother is Kala. Kala is also an actress who has acted in few Malayalam films such as News, Iniyum Kurukshethram, Peruvannapurathhe Visheshangal and Dasharatham and some more. Though Kala and Jagathy divorced, Jagathy cared his daughter Sreelakshmi well. Sreelakshmi Sreekumar entered the film industry through the film Iyer in Pakistan. This film featured Fahadh Fazil. Sreelakshmi has got this chance of acting at her young age of 17. Her father Jagathy is not interested to bring his daughter in to the cinema industry. Jagathy’s dream is to make his daughter an IAS officer. But Sreelakshmi’s dream is to become an actress. The film is offered to her by her family friend Aroma Mani. After a long hesitation she accepted the film with the permission of her dad. She wanted to fulfill the wish by her father and hence rejected the opportunity of playing in Snehaveedu. Sreelakshmi is a versatile actress who began her career in 1993, and gained recognition as one of the lead Malayalam actress’ in 1990.   Born in Thirvananthapuram, Kerala, she completed her Pre-University and then pursued a Diploma in Bharata Natyam from the Kalakshetra in Chennai. Following a significant career, she chose to move into a family life following her marriage and was chose to move to Dubai where she ran a Dance School. She subsequently moved back to Thiruvananthapuram in 2012 to begin her TV career, and also to run her dance school Temple of Arts at Kuravankonam.   She is the recipient of the prestigious Kerala University Kalathilakam, the winner of the 1997 Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actress – Boothakkannadi, the 1997 Kerala State Mini Screen Award for Best Actress – Maranam Durbalam (Doordarshan), and the 2011 Kerala State Mini Screen Award for Best Actress –Ardhachandrante (Amritha TV).   The movies that featured her include the 1993 hit Porutham, followed by the award winning Bhoothakannadi and Guru, The Car; Thalolam and Mattupetti Machan in 1998.   Sreelakshmi plays the role of Sarojini opposite Mammootty in Boothakannadi, which was directed by Lohithadas who also won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director. In the movie, Sreelakshmi plays the role of Mammootty’s love interest, as the mother of a teenage daughter. Her ability to transform the role in to a support role that beautifully compliments the lead is something that has captured the imagination of audiences world-wide. She also played the role of Athira in the Kaladharan movie Porutham, where she starred alongside a cast of Siddique, Murali and Adoor Bhasi. Her talent also saw her act in the Rajasenan movie, The Car, opposite Jayaram, and opposite Murali and Suresh Gopi in the Jayaraj movie Thaalolam.   Her TV career saw her in Maranam Durbalam on Doordarshan, Oru Penninte Kadha on Mazhavil Manorama, Avalude Kadha on Surya TV, Ardhachandrante Rathri on Amritha TV, Angniputhri on Asianet and Ammamanasam again on Surya TV.
