Kuttyedathi Vilasini

Kuttyedathi Vilasini has acted in almost 140 films and in over 4,000 dramas. She is a renowned Malayali actress who has been remembered for her character roles that she portrayed in the movies. Her career had spanned over five decades and she had given preference to both art and commercial cinema. Besides doing plays on stages, she had appeared even for mainstream and off-beat cinema. 

Vilasini began her film career in mid-60’s doing supporting roles. The actress made her role memorable in the film ‘Kuttyedathi’ (the elder sister) which is considered as one of the classic films made in the 1970s. After this film was released, ‘Kuttyedathi’ tag remained with her name. She even got to play a lead role in this movie. Being a Malayalam theater actor Vilasini slipped into the roles very easily. She perfectly understood the difference between the two medium, theater and film, and utilized her acting skill which was an advantage for her obviously. Her memorable roles are as Mary in film ‘Chukku’, as Moosakutty’s mother in ‘Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu’, as Sarojini in ‘Kodiyettam’, as Khadeeja in ‘Angadi’ etc. 

Vilasini started acting from mid-60’s itself and appeared in every famous film of 60’s and 70’s. Audiences liked her simplicity and innocent smile. The actress fetched Kerala State Film Award for second best actress in 1976 for ‘Dweep’. Being a prominent supporting actress in Malayalam movies, she was conferred with Bharat Murali Puraskar in 2013. She was given a citation and cash prize of Rs 50 thousand for her contribution to film industry.
