Nellikode Bhaskaran is a Malayalam movie actor. He is also a director and a lyricist. He has appeared in more than ten Malayalam movies. He also received a Kerala State Film Award in 1972 for Best Actor in the movie Maram. He holds 22 Kerala State Award for Best Actor. His original name is Bhaskaran Menon but changed his name after entering the film Industry and Nellikode Bhaskaran thus became his stage name. He is known for portraying supportive roles in man south Indian movies. He has also played many character roles in the Malayalam movies.
Bhaskaran’s latest appearance on the big screen in the movie Kadathanadan Ambadi in the year 1990. The movie was directed by the famous Indian movie director, Priyadarshan. The movie depicted Kerala’s traditional Vadakkanpattu. Bhaskaran appeared for a brief role in the movie The movie was a huge flop and received lots of negative reviews. He appeared on the big screen in the year 1961 in the movie Kandam Becha Kottu. Kandam Becha Kottu was a movie based on a novel written by K.T. Muhammed. The movie was the first colored Malayalam movie. Bhaskaran played the role of Hassan in the movie and appeared in a supporting character role. His performance attracted the attention of many Malayalam directors and thus in the following years, he appeared in many Malayalam movies. In the year 1962, he appeared in two movies namely Bharya and Kalpadukal. Again, in the year 1963, he appeared in the movie Kadalamma and Moodupudam. Though directors were impressed by his performance as a supporting actor, he was never offered a major role in any Malayalam movie.
In the year 1965, he appeared in the movie Murappennu. The movie was the first movie in which Bhaskaran appeared in a significant role. M.T. Vasudevan Nair wrote the movie. The movie was a success and was critically acclaimed, and he portrayed the role of Veerankutty. In the same year, he appeared in the movie Kattupookal, in which he played the role of Annamma’s brother. In 1965, Bhaskaran appeared in a bunch of movies. Apart from Murappennu and Kattupookal, Bhaskaran also appeared in the movie Kavyamela and Pattuthoovaala.
He achieved success in the year 1972 when he was cast for the movie Maram. He played the role of Aymutti in the movie. His performance in the movie was so promising that he also won the Kerala State Awad for Best Second Actor. Later he was offered roles in a bunch of Malayalam movies. He did more than twenty Malayalam movies which include Themmadi Velappan, Chottanikkara Amma, Ivanente Priya Puthran, Ananda Shayannam, Marunattil Oru Malayali, Itha Oru Manushyan, Tharoo Oru Janmam Koodi, Mukkuvane Snehicha Bhootham and much more.
In the year 1979, he appeared in a significant role in the movie Sarapanajaram. He appeared in a supportive role. For his performance in the movie, he again received the Kerala State Awards for Second Best Actor that year. After 1990, Bhaskaran took retirement from the Malayalam film Industry. He currently resides in Kerala with his family.
