K Vijayan is a veteran director who worked mainly in the Tamil cinema. His birth name was K. Sathyanathan, born on December 7, 1939, in Tirur, Kerala. He got married to Sakunthalai K. Vijayan and had four kids. He began his career in the film industry in 1960, when he was offered a lead role as Murugesan in PaadhaiTheriyudhuPaar. The movie addressed the trade union movement of India and scripted, keeping the ideology of the Communist Party of India in mind.

He died during the shooting of ‘En Rathathin Rathame,’ which was later completed by his son Sundar K. Vijayan.
