Rajagopala Kulashekharan was a well-known Indian music director, music composer, conductor, and arranger. He was a member of the Tamil Agamudaya Mudhaliyar family and was born on June 21, 1933, in Tiruvallur, British India. Kasthuri Shekhar and Rajagopala Kulashekharan were wed in 1958 at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati. There were four kids born to the couple, two of whom were singers: A.R. Rahman and A.R. Reihana. Beginning his career, Rajagopala Kulashekharan played the harmonium for plays in theatres.
He later started working as M.B. Sreenivasan's assistant. "Chotta Muthal Chudala Vare," his first song as a music director, was written for the 1964 movie Pazhassi Raja. In total, he wrote the music for 52 movies, including 23 Malayalam movies with 127 songs. The film soundtracks for Taxi Car (1972), Miss Mary, Kuttichathan, Yudhabhoomi, Tiruvanam (film), and Chottanikkara Amma (1976) are only a few of his well-known compositions. Rajagopala Kulashekharan tragically passed away on September 30, 1976, leaving behind a stellar musical legacy. He continues to serve as an example for many young composers and musicians.
